Smile Makeovers - A Custom Treatment Plan For Your New Smile In Eltham

Our latest cosmetic treatments can help you regain an attractive smile!

You may have come across the term ‘smile makeover’ before and presumed that it was a specific treatment designed to improve your smile. If so, you are partly correct but instead of it consisting of one treatment, it can, in fact, use a number of different treatments to attain the best results.

Everybody is different, and we can see this every day as we walk down the high street. This also applies when it comes to our teeth and the way that they look, especially when we smile. At AR Smiles in Eltham, we also take an individual approach when a patient comes to us requesting an improvement in the way that their teeth look. While a single treatment can make an improvement, there may be other issues that would detract from the new whiter smile somewhat. For example, perfectly white teeth will not look as good if there are small chips in them.

Assessment and initial consultation

In order to ascertain the most appropriate treatment for you, you will need to have an initial consultation with one of our experienced cosmetic dentists. They will also check your general oral health as there is little point, for example, in having whiter teeth if there are cavities present. Any issues such as tooth decay or gum disease will need to be treated before any cosmetic treatments start.

Let us take a look then at some of the more common treatments that might be included in a smile makeover.

Teeth whitening

This is now a well established and popular cosmetic dental procedure with all ages. Its affordability and non-invasive nature means that more and more people are trying it and are delighted with the results. We are able to offer both ‘at home’ and ‘in clinic’ whitening treatments that can whiten your teeth by several shades in just a short period of time. These are popular with people seeking a consistent new whiteness as well as those requiring a ‘boost’ for a one off special occasion such as a wedding.

Dental veneers

Porcelain veneers are another way of whitening teeth and giving you a great looking smile. They are generally more likely to be used where teeth are more heavily discoloured or stained, or where chips and cracks are present. They may require invasive treatment as it often requires the removal of a fine layer of the affected tooth enamel to be ‘shaved’ away so that the new veneers can be fitted. One advantage of veneers over teeth whitening though is that the new colour can last for around ten years before your porcelain veneer will need to be replaced.

Bonding can be used for a number of things but is often used for cosmetically improving the appearance of teeth that have become chipped. If a chip has exposed the underlying dentin layer, you may need to have the tooth filled, but in many cases, bonding can be used to fill and reshape the tooth to give it a natural and even appearance. It can also be used for reshaping irregular teeth, as well as protecting any tooth roots that have become exposed by receding gums. In some instances, it can also be used to close small gaps between the teeth, such as a diastema, where a gap occurs between the top two front teeth. Its use for this latter purpose will depend on your situation though and orthodontics may prove to be a more appropriate solution.

Orthodontics, or dental braces as they are commonly known, are used to straighten teeth that have become uneven and crooked over time. Unlike the previous procedures, this often requires a longer treatment period, and, if you are hoping to have an even smile for a specific event, we recommend that you contact our Eltham dental practice as soon as possible for an appointment. Some treatments can take over a year to complete as it is important not to exert too much pressure on the teeth due to risk of damage. Where the misalignment is minor and applies to the ‘social six’ teeth that people see when you smile, there are now a range of orthodontics that are designed to achieve this in a shorter period of time; sometimes just a matter of weeks.

For those who do require more extensive correction, modern aligners such as ‘Invisalign’ are designed to be not only effective, but also more comfortable and convenient and can be removed for short periods when eating meals and cleaning your teeth.

Depending on your own situation, you may require several, or just one, of the above treatments. The only way to be sure is to arrange a consultation with our cosmetic dentists. If you would like to arrange yours, please call AR Smiles today on 020 8856 7759. We look forward to seeing you!
