AR Smiles - Introducing Our Eltham Dental Practice

A brief look at the dentistry we offer for local patients....

Hello, and welcome to our first blog; we hope that you will find these both useful and interesting. In the future, we will be covering specific oral health issue topics along with treatments that are available to restore unhealthy or damaged teeth as well as looking at ways that you can improve your smile with cosmetic dentistry.

To get the ball rolling today though, we thought it would be useful to highlight a few of the treatments that we offer. We will look at these in more detail in future blogs.

General dental care

Patients are recommended to visit our Eltham dentist every six months for a check up. This is to ensure that any issues, such as small cavities, don’t become worse and can be treated in the least invasive way possible. We also take this opportunity to check your overall oral health for issues that may require further medical care; an important part of the check up. Patients should also see the hygienist every six months to have their teeth professionally cleaned using a scale and polish procedure and to receive ongoing, personalised oral health education.

Children’s dentistry

Getting your child off to a good start is important, and both good and bad habits learned at this age often linger throughout their lives. It is important then that they learn how to look after their teeth well and that their teeth and gums are monitored as they grow up into adults. Our highly qualified staff offer a friendly and relaxed approach when treating children and we are confident that we can help them grow up to have healthy teeth and gums.

White fillings

Many of you will be familiar with fillings, but did you know that you can now have these produced in a shade to make them blend in with your natural teeth? Amalgam fillings are strong but also highly visible. With modern, tooth coloured fillings, you can have your teeth restored and leave them natural looking as well!

Dental implants

While we hope that our patients will keep their own teeth well into old age, tooth loss can occur, whether through neglect or by accident at any age. Traditionally, dentures have been used to replace any missing teeth and we do offer them at our practice. Increasingly though, people are turning to dental implants as these offer a stronger and more stable solution as they replace the missing tooth root as well as the crown section of the tooth. They are also very natural looking and much more convenient than other tooth replacement techniques.

Teeth whitening

Most of you will probably be aware of this procedure as it has certainly been a hit with many celebrities etc. We offer both at home and in house teeth whitening treatments and will discuss the most appropriate method during your initial consultation with us. If you want a whiter and brighter smile, this is an affordable and effective treatment.

Porcelain veneers are another method that can be used to whiten discoloured and stained teeth. They are also especially effective where chips and cracks are present. Generally, these are used where staining and discolouration is more significant and offer an effective and long lasting solution to this problem.

Orthodontics, also known as ‘braces’ offer an effective way to straighten crooked and uneven teeth. As care has to be taken not to apply too much pressure when straightening teeth, this can mean that braces need to be worn for a significant length of time. Traditionally, braces have been made of metal which deterred a lot of people from having them, however AR Smiles now offer a range of almost invisible orthodontics including the popular Invisalign system.

Nervous patients

One thing that we are aware of at our practice is that quite a lot of patients are nervous about seeing their dentist, even for a check up in some cases. We do understand this and you are not alone. This is a common issue which we will address in a later blog. For now though, please be assured that we do understand and will do all that we can to make your visit as comfortable as possible, whether you are receiving treatment that day or not.

Facial aesthetics

Finally, for today at least, a reminder that we also offer a range of facial aesthetic treatments for those seeking a younger looking appearance. Our anti-wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers are a great way to give your skin a youthful boost in the safe hands of our experienced clinicians!

We hope that you enjoyed this blog and we will be covering many of the above topics in more detail in future posts. If there is a dental related topic that you would like to see covered, please let us know. For further information on any of the above or to make an appointment to see one of our friendly team, please give us a call on 020 8856 7759. We look forward to meeting you!
