Our Suggestions For Tooth Friendly Christmas Presents

If you've started your Christmas shopping, spare a thought for your friend’s and relative’s teeth!

It is around this time of year when we realise that Christmas is a little closer than we had realised and we find ourselves searching for ideas for gifts to buy for our friends and relatives. It is a time for giving, of course, but perhaps we should also pause for thought and wonder how beneficial all the chocolates and sweets that we often buy are for the teeth of those they are intended for.

We have no wish to spoil people’s fun of course and undoubtedly some chocolates etc will be consumed, but even so, there are a number of gifts that you can buy people that are either not harmful or indeed beneficial for teeth and gums. The team at AR Smiles has put together a list of suggestions below to help you select a few tooth friendly gifts for those you plan to buy for.

Electric toothbrush

Although electric toothbrushes are now very popular, there are still probably millions of people who continue to use a manual toothbrush. There is nothing wrong with this as such, but it is now widely accepted that an electric toothbrush is generally more effective at removing food and bacteria from the teeth and the gum line (especially if you replace the head regularly as you should).

This is perhaps one of those things that people may not do for themselves but buying one for your friends and family will transform their oral health habits and they are unlikely to look back. They can be especially useful for people with arthritis and other mobility issues as the rotating heads do much of the work.

Water flosser

First of all, let us say that we believe that dental floss is the best thing that you can use to clean between your teeth. It is highly affordable and, with a bit of practice, quite easy to do too. Despite this, still only around one in five of us actually use this. One of the most common reasons is that it is ‘difficult to do’. For those then who will simply not use floss, a water flosser may well prove to be beneficial. It works by shooting fine jets of water aimed between the teeth and will help to remove food debris from that area.

Dental travel kit

If you have friends or relatives that travel regularly, a dental travel kit could be a blessing, especially if they travel to remote areas where shops are not easy to find. A small toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and temporary dental fillings are great contents for these kits and will help them to keep their mouth healthy and possibly even do emergency repairs where no dentist is immediately available. Naturally, professional advice should be sought as soon as possible, but if a filling falls out, this can be a real help until such a time that they can see a dentist for a permanent restoration. You can either buy a ready-made kit or make one up yourself for that personalised touch.

Tooth friendly snacks

As mentioned earlier, one of the most common gifts our patients are likely to receive this Xmas are chocolates, sweets and other sugar laden goodies. Christmas is a time to relax and not worry about things as much and we are not saying you should avoid these altogether. Most of us would probably agree that we eat far too many of these over the festive period though, often doing so simply because we have so many. Why not offer an alternative gift of tooth friendly snacks such as a selection of nuts and cheeses, both of which are beneficial for your teeth as well.

Whiter teeth

If you are looking for a more significant gift for a loved one, there are a number of options that we have available at our Eltham dental clinic. Amongst the most popular of these for a gift is our fast acting teeth whitening treatment. Offering you the opportunity to whiten your teeth by up to sixteen shades, this is a great opportunity to upgrade your smile in a safe, fast acting and painless manner.

Smoother skin

Similarly, we also offer the opportunity for the gift of smoother, younger looking skin with our facial aesthetic treatments. Whether you want wrinkle reductions or to plump up features such as your lips by using dermal fillers, our experienced and friendly facial aesthetics team are here to help guide you through the process.

We hope that this list has given you a few ideas that won’t just not harm your teeth but benefit them too. If you would like more information about the treatments mentioned, our friendly Eltham team will be happy to help you.
